-Battle of Alderaan (3,667 BBY)
-Battle of Rhen Var (3,667 BBY)
-The Rim Campaign (3,660 BBY)
Background: Rodhesri was born on Iridonia on about 3,704 BBY (51 BTC) (making him roughly 23 at the time the Sith Empire reemerged at 3,681 BBY (28 BTC)). He was identified as an infant as force sensitive and taken in by the Jedi for training. Rodhesri learned many of the lessons taught to all younglings quickly though he was a slow learner with force techniques. However, slow to learn the force he may have been, he was an extremely quick study with his lightsaber lessons.
Jedi Master Belth Allusis took Rodhesri as his Padawan. Master Allusis was courageous and selfless, both of which rubbed off on his younger padawan. And though few outside of the Council chamber knew that he also had amazing wit and
humor, his all too serious padawan was reminded daily, and indeed the pairing made Rodhesri the Jedi he was to become.
Allusis had Rodhesri trained by Battlemaster Kao Cen Darach, also a fellow Zabrak in all forms of lightsaber combat, some that were even considered obsolete at this time such as Form II Makeshi. Master Darach spent more time with Rodhesri than with many of the other students. Some of the other Padawan even went so far as to claim it was because Rodhesri was a Zabrak himself. Rodhesri’s profiency level in all forms was reaching mastery by the time he attained the rank of Knight. Rodhesri made the rank of Knight, after completing his trials 3,863 BBY (30 BTC), at the age of 21.
Rodhesri spent his first year of Knighthood travelling the galaxy on diplomatic missions. During this time he continued to develop and hone his lightsaber techniques and forms. He focused, at his former master’s request, on the “dying” forms (Makeshi, Shien, Juyo), above the others while maintaining his advanced proficiency in the other four forms. During his time as a Diplomat, Rodhesri mediated multiple disputes, always with the goal in mind of never igniting his lightsaber.
Rodhesri was working through a dispute in the Aparo Sector when the Battle of Korriban kicked off the Great Galactic War. He, along with most other Jedi Knights serving everywhere in the galaxy was recalled back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant as an emergency measure. A padawan, Satele Shan, broke the news of the death of Master Kao Cen Darach, and the return of the Sith Empire. Rodhesri was greatly saddened at the loss of such a great mentor, and a spark of hatred was ignited in his being for all that is Sith. Much like Kao Cen Darach before him, he would become a staunchly anti-Sith figurehead.
Rodhesri had only been a knight for such a short time, so with Battlemaster Kao Cen Darach gone, the title of Battlemaster fell to Jun Seros, a respected peer. Jun Seros requested that Rodhesri be attached to him at the start of the war as though Master Seros was the Battlemaster, Rodhesri had trained extensively in forms that the Jedi had viewed as ‘obsolete’ and were now greatly needed.
Rodhesri was promoted at 26 to the rank of Master, and continued to serve with Master Seros who was now a General, taking Rodhesri as a Commander. While many of his peers shied away from combat, Rodhesri charged into it, the spark of hate smoldering into a flickering flame.
The Council recognized the pure battle prowess of Master Rodhesri and began to move him, along with others like him, around the galaxy to where the war needed him most. As such, he fought in more battles than many of the other Jedi, save perhaps Satele Shan.
The death of his former master, Master Allusis (Second Battle of Bothawui, 3,671 BBY), turned the flickering flame of hatred inside Rodhesri into a blazing inferno. Though many of the other Masters noticed the change inside their peer, all were reluctant to say or do anything for two reasons. One was that Rodhesri was renowned for his staunch opposition of anything Sith, so that he would be one to fall was ludicrous; and secondly his skills on the battlefield were so sorely needed, they could not afford to replace him.
He would go on to fight in the Battle of Alderaan, the Battle of Rhen Var, and the Rim Campaign. During this time he continued to train Knights in the field concurrently to their battles. After 21 years of fighting the war, and training Jedi in the ‘forgotten’ lightsaber arts, there were finally enough other Jedi to carry the torch that Rodhesri was not needed at the front any longer. The other Masters requested that Satele Shan, the Grandmaster of the Jedi, reassign Rodhesri to the Temple on Coruscant as a Lightsaber instructor. He had trained enough Jedi in the field for the present. Now it was time for him to go train the younglings and protect the Republic’s future.
Rodhesri was reassigned 3,659 BBY to the Temple on Coruscant. The goal was to take the battle-hardened Master, and have him pass his knowledge to the next generation while at the same time, removing him from the stress and darkness of the battlefield to bring him back from the bring. Initially Rodhesri resented the assignment and his hatred spiraled further. But as he grew to appreciate his role, and the time spent with the young future of their Order, the light hearted and easy going Rodhesri that had not been seen in more than two decades, began to surface.
Six years into his new assignment as the senior Lightsaber instructor, the war front that Rodhesri had left behind, would come to find him. 3,653 BBY; the Sacking of Coruscant. Rodhesri held back from the main fight allowing the many other Knights and Masters in the Temple to repell the attack. Rodhesri stayed behind with the younglings that he had come to think of as his own. Rodhesri cut down Sith after Sith, Imperial Trooper after trooper, refusing to leave the hallway that led to the children. It was during this engagement that a Sith Warrior managed to cut Rodhesri's right eye, leaving him a scar that he wears proudly to this day. Finally, all the lessons and sacrifice Master Darach, and the sacrifice of Master Allusis hit home. Rodhesri sealed the door to the younglings chamber, and stood inside with them, both sabers ignited, waiting. For two days, he stood guard, pausing only to comfort the crying children who were growing more hungry.
Finally, Rodhesri risked stepping out knowing that the children needed something, anything to sustain them.
Rodhesri stepped out to find the Temple in ruins, as many Jedi dead as Sith, and the Jedi collecting their dead. Rodhesri was the first to clamor that battle must be taken to the enemy. It was then that he was told about the Treaty of Coruscant. Rodhesri could not believe that the Republic would buckle to such a ridiculous notion. All of his effort, the sacrifices of friends, mentors, masters, irreplaceable depths of knowledge and understanding torn away before their time, and the Republic had thrown in the towel.
The combined sadness at such a grand scale of loss, relief that he had protected the next generation, and rekindling anger at the Sith led Master Rodhesri to step down as senior Lightsaber Instructor on Coruscant, and to once again take the fight to the enemy.
For a few years he roamed the galaxy alone, taking this time as almost a nomadic meditation. Focusing on his inner balance, sorting his feelings, and doing small acts of Justice wherever the Force would take him. After 12 years of this wandering, Satele Shan would send him a message over his frequency after years of silence.
The short message read: “Jedi taking charge of a new Organization not connected to the Republic. Jedi Ak’ron given Leadership. He could use an old General in his corner to keep him from making the same mistakes we did.” It went on to identify ‘Ord Mantell’ and included coordinates.
Rodhesri was needed once again. But this time.. would he be too old to bring his lightsabers to bear?
